AC Shadows Unveils Unexpected Attack on Titan Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a unexpected collaboration that breaks conventional forecasts, the game developer has unveiled an virtual partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, including free additional story content for Shadows players.
Strange Mission Uncovered
According to the official statement, "A mysterious encounter leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh adventure, where hints of forbidden rituals and monstrous metamorphoses reverberate through the shadows." The plot presents a "strangely attired woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with venturing into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a secret group.
The mission focuses on "peculiar tests and a monstrous adversary" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Recognizable Places and Changes
The preview highlights the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The teaser ends with a striking scene showing a character, likely the captive, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Prizes and Bonus Material
Players who successfully complete the mission will obtain an unique katana in addition to several artifacts hidden throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-themed outfit for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Special implements
- Survey Corps mount
Latest Free Story Update
This update also introduces the game's third free story content, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic abilities: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Enigma" also features a new environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Partnerships
This represents scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with well-known anime franchises. The series previously included a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally included a quest that obviously referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
