The bowler's most recent Test for New Zealand was versus the English side in the final month of 2024.

England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating what his involvement will be at the forthcoming Ashes contest in Australia.

The ex- Kiwi pace bowler is only likely to be present for the first Test due to his involvement in the International League T20 competition, which starts on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.

The 36-year-old, 36, assumed a position as England's fast bowling consultant in the summer after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.

Commenting as England's squad for the first of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was named, Southee stated of his availability: "We're still working through that at the present time.

"We will determine what happens over the next little while."

English pace icon Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the contest, which begins on November 21.

"In my view there's at any time a bad Australian cricket team," he remarked.

"Our focus is squarely on our own objectives. I think the quality of [the English] side that's going out to the host country is brilliant.

"It ought to be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I think the entire cricketing community is."

But, prior to the English team head to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
