Fans Call for Detainment of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are calling for that a man who leaped a barricade and seized the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be detained or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the actors made its way down a event pathway flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was set to attend court on the next day. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last December.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Many followers criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another response on Instagram.
Some supporters also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded digital services to remove Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
