Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with performances like these.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
