The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Versus the Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.
"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, our country," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
Springer has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another player anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot except for Springer with his playoff prowess," noted manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's painful" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their work in the campaign.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of the series," he remarked.
Toronto's team won the title on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
