The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:
- Every squad has just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
