The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Song
This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.
Overall, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its presence.
Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be among these.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
