This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
